Turtle Watching

On any Pacific island, turtles are creatures of cutural and traditional importance, and Samoa is no exception. Turtles back in the early days were a sort out delicacy for our people for their rich protein meats and decorative shells which are used in many samoan customs. one such custom  was the use of the shell to make the sharp blade of the tatooing stick, also know as the A'u. but due to the drop in numbers of the turtle, this practice has been banned, and for good reason. but there are still some nowadays that still practice the art of illigel turtle catching.

The most common species found in Samoa are Green Turtles and the Hawksbill turtles. These turtles have recently been added to the endangoured species list, and is now protected in all Samoan waters and under Samoan Law. So it is an honor and privilege for us here at Le Uaina Seaside Resort to take you on a tour of one of the best turtle spotting areas on island. Due to this fact, we only  take our small vessel which only holds up to 3 people, so as to not disturb the feeding grounds of this most beloved creature.
